In my professional life I often use the term 'a parrot on each shoulder' (one negative and the other positive) to explain internal dialogues. I wrote this on the way to a dance in Sheffield (11th Jan 2003) and was explaining my dilemma as to whether I had the confidence to do the dance that evening - the positive parrot won!
